Antenatal Care

During your pregnancy, your care can be shared between your GP and your chosen maternity hospital. This is known as Combined Antenatal Care or GP Shared Care.

What vaccines do I need in pregnancy?

  • Whooping cough (pertussis)

    16–36 weeks, every pregnancy

    Helps protect your newborn from whooping cough in the first few months of life.

  • Flu (influenza)

    Any stage of pregnancy

    Helps protect you from serious illness from the flu and helps protect your baby. The flu vaccine can reduce the risk of stillbirth by 50%.

  • COVID-19

    Any stage of pregnancy

    Vaccination reduces your risk of becoming seriously unwell with COVID-19 and can help protect your baby. Babies are at higher risk of hospitalisation from COVID-19, and babies whose mothers were vaccinated during pregnancy are less likely to need hospital admission from COVID-19.
